New Line of Litter Boxes Designed for Seniors

For senior citizen cat owners plagued by chronic pain to such a degree that cleaning the litter box is an agonizing ordeal, LitterWorks introduces a new line of litter box maintenance systems specifically designed to make kitty care safer and easier on suffering joints and muscles. LitterWorks products offer a range of senior-friendly features, highlighted by an elevated litter area and a unique and sanitary built-in bagging system.

« Cat ownership is wonderfully rewarding, especially for seniors, but no one likes cleaning a litter box, » says Brian Turkalo, LitterWorks’ president and product inventor. « Not only is it smelly and gross, but most litter boxes are designed to be placed on the ground, so stooping down to clean them can be painful. LitterWorks alleviates these problems, improving the quality of life for seniors who can now better care for their cats on their own. »

All LitterWorks products feature a litter area that is elevated 18 inches above the ground — an easy height for cats to scale from below and for cat owners to reach from above. This works to effectively minimize pain and potential injuries stemming from the need to stoop down or bend over to clean traditional litter boxes placed on the ground.

« More than 70 million Americans live with arthritis and chronic joint pain, » said Turkalo. « For those whose pain has prevented them from enjoying the pleasures and benefits of cat ownership, our products are just what the doctor ordered. »

According to the National Pain Foundation, one in four Americans lives with chronic pain. Arthritis is America’s number one crippler, affecting some 40 million people, including 80% of all persons 50 and over.

LitterWorks products also make litter box maintenance safer through its unique sanitary built-in bagging system. A standard feature on all LitterWorks products, the company’s proprietary bagging system prevents cat owners from coming into contact with cat waste by channeling it through a disposal chute and into a continuous feed plastic bag located below the litter area. Waste bags are concealed in an attractive cabinet, which also has a separate storage area for litter and other supplies.

« For seniors with suppressed immune responses, Toxoplasmosis can be another serious health issue that is addressed by our products, » said Turkalo. « Our bagging system absolutely minimizes the possibility of contact with cat waste, which is a particular benefit to this group. »

LitterWorks offers both automated and manual litter maintenance systems.

LitterWorks automated litter maintenance systems are powered by Littermaid(TM), makers of the most popular self-cleaning litter box on the market. The LW412-LIT model is a fully integrated litter maintenance system that includes the Littermaid LM900 (Mega) self-cleaning litter box, which sits on top of a cabinet that features the high-capacity sanitary bagging system on one side and a storage area for supplies on the other. The Littermaid automatically removes the waste from the litter area and dumps it through a chute and into the high capacity bagging system below.

For those who already own a Littermaid automated litter box, LitterWorks offers the LW410-LMS, which seamlessly accommodates all Littermaid models, eliminating the need for the small waste receptacles that often need to be emptied every day.

LitterWorks’ manual litter maintenance system, the LW400-LMS model, features the same high-capacity sanitary waste disposal and storage features found on the automated systems. Waste is simply scooped from the primary litter area through the disposal chute and into the storage bag hidden below.

About LitterWorks Headquartered in Matthews, North Carolina, LitterWorks manufactures, markets and sells innovative litter maintenance systems that make it safer and easier for senior citizens to care for their cats. LitterWorks litter maintenance systems (patent-pending) are elevated off the ground for easy access and feature a unique built-in bagging system that eliminates the risk of coming in contact with waste. There’s even tons of storage room for supplies in the attractive wood-grain cabinet that houses the entire unit.
