Tri-State Care Alternatives. of New Paltz, New York, announces the opening of
its sister office, Choice Eldercare, Inc., located at 790 Kinderkamack Road in
River Edge. The agency specializes in personalized at-home assistance services
to senior citizens but distinguishes itself in the way it provides that care.
The agency’s slogan, “Care Seniors choose for themselves” means that clients are
the ones who not only make the final decision on who they hire, but also pay the
assistants directly, cutting out the extra expense of the proverbial middle man,
which typically drives up the hourly rate for these kinds of services. This
keeps the services affordable for a wider range of people who need help the most.
What’s more, Choice Eldercare’s independent, pre-qualified caregivers are
available on a much more flexible basis that what other agencies offer, with
people caring for seniors on an hourly basis, overnight or by the week.
Choice Eldercare was by Dr. Laura Rozno, who holds a Ph.D. in nursing and
clinical social work; she brings her experience now to Choice Eldercare,
offering a comprehensive menu of caregiver services from which clients may
choose, as well as a huge pool of reliable and compassionate assistants. However,
as Vice-President Agnessa Uchitel of River Edge points out, the agency differs
in the way it delivers eldercare. “Our caregivers provide the wide range of
personal assistance found elsewhere but for several dollars per hour less than
the average market rate. That’s because our clients make the final decision
about who to hire, and pay the caregivers rather than Choice Eldercare.”
Dr. Rozno, who meets with prospective clients and handles all the intake
information, charges a consultation and search fee to compile a list of
employees who best fit the needs of the client. She then coordinates the
interviews between the clients and the matching caregivers from her database of
approximately 300 independent caregivers.
Background and reference checks are conducted thoroughly before someone makes it
to the caregiver roster. Once a client finds someone he wishes to hire, the
schedule, rate and payment are all handled directly with the employee. Uchitel
estimates that the average client requiring six hours of outside help a week
could save enough right there to pay for an extra hour of help; clients
requiring overnight stays will see the biggest savings over what other agencies
must charge.
