We’ve surveyed millions of 45+ consumers and we’ve completed lots of national and international studies

You are Margaret Wylde, President and CEO of Promature Group.
Could you please introduce yourself and your organization?

The organization is the ProMatura Group, LLC. We are a research firm that
specializes in understanding mature consumers and the housing, products and
services companies that serve them. We have been in business since 1984. We’ve
surveyed millions of 45+ consumers and we’ve completed lots of national and
international studies. A lot of our work is related to the housing industry, but
we’ve also evaluated consumers’ preferences for and likelihood of purchasing
more than 3,000 different consumer products and services.

What do you offer to companies that want to reach the 50+ market?
A lot of years of experience with consumers as researchers and service
providers. And, decades of research experience and interaction with this market
sector. We know that the 50+ market isn’t a silver lining just because there is
a large proportion turning 55. We’re hard-nosed about our clients understanding
of the proportion of the market that will buy their product and the price they
are willing to pay for their product. Too often we see product developers too
excited by the numbers that are turning « 50+ » so that they are blinded to see
the truth of how many people will purchase their product.

What differentiates Promature Group from other consulting companies operating on
the 50+ market?

In many ways we are similar to other research companies, but we’ve also had the
opportunity to combine experience in local markets and small projects with large
scale national research studies that we’ve completed. And, we consider it our
mission to be able to apply the results of of hard core research. We use
conjoint analysis as part of almost every study.

Do you think that companies in the U.S. are conscious of the impact of
population ageing on national economy?

Not really. I think because the greying is happening everyday and it is being
muted by hair coloring and plastic surgery and changes in health and fitness,
that we fail to recognize that the elephant is in the living room and it is
wearing bifocals (or rather it should be wearing bi-focals, but because of new
lenses for glasses, contact lenses and various surgeries the bi-focals are gone,
too.

Would you like to speak about one of your latest projects?
Which one, I would like to talk about all of them. We have really been fortunate
to have some of the opportunities to work for and with the folks we have worked
with. Most of our projects are proprietary, so I don’t want to talk about those
— but ProMatura has been gathering data on a research study of our own. So, I
can talk about this study and results – it’s a good feeling to be able to share
information.
